Rookie Watch

First 15 Picks and some other notables

Kyrie Irving-  Irving shot 2 of 12 in the first game of the season and that can't even be attributed to the defense because they were playing the Raptors.  Since the opening night he's been good though, overall he's averaging 13 points and six assists with 2.3 turnovers.  Kyrie Irving will probably live up to expectations and be the best player in the draft.

Derrick Williams-  13 points and 6 boards playing 24 minutes, and so people know, it seems that they are going to be playing him mostly at power forward although he did get some time as a Small Forward as well.  He's been solid through the first week, but it's had to tell how much of that is just because he's on a bad team.

Enes Kanter-  Enes Kanter looked atrocious against the Lakers, when he was down low he struggled far too much with just getting into position on the block.  The only good thing for him is the Jazz traded Mehmet Okur so he might get a bit more playing time.

Tristian Thompson-  First game of the season he had 14 pts 5 rebounds in 17 minutes, perhaps it was just excitement, but he looked good.  As much as I hated that pick on draft night, it looks like Thompson is actually going to be pretty good.

Jan Vesely-

Bismack Biyambo-  He had 6 minutes and put in just a turnover, he didn't look like anything special... After a few more games it appears scouts were right that he's a great defensive player and rebounder, I just can't see him developing any sort of offensive game.

Kemba Walker-  21 minutes 13 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, 7/7 from the line.  Kemba's looking like he's going to be very good in the NBA.  He hustles all over the court and those rebounds and FT's are representatives of that.  He's continued to be good, his issue will just be getting playing time over D.J. Augustin.

Brandon Knight-  9 points and 4 turnovers in 17 minutes, like all Calipari point guards, it appears that he will struggle with turnovers.  He's averaging 12 points 3 assists, he's shown that he's got talent, now I'd just like to see him in the starting lineup.

Jimmer Fredette-  In preseason he had 16 once and 17 in the other.  He can score in the NBA the question is can he play defense.  In the regular season he's continued to demonstrate he's a good offensive player but with the emergence of Marcus Thorton they don't really need another scorer in the starting lineup.  If the Kings backcourt stays the same it appears Jimmer will always just be an offensive spark off the bench.

Klay Thompson-  Against the Clippers Klay was firing away and he wasn't looking that good as he was shooting 2-8, however it is a good sign that the played him regardless of his performance because it shows that they have a decent amount of commitment to him.  Throughout the season this has remained true, he's filled decent minutes with no production.

Alec Burks-  He really should be getting more minutes, he runs the floor well and scores about a point per minute.

Markeiff Morris- 25 minutes 9 rebounds, he appears to be a true hustle player.  This trend continues through the first weak, on a crappy suns team.  He'll see the floor and help his team while he's on it.

Marcus Morris-  He only had four minutes and he really didn't show anything too spectacular (hence why he only had 4 minutes).  That pattern has continued, it appears that at best he'll be a decent role player.

Kawhi Leanard-  14 minutes, 6 boards, playing small forward, he'll get his minutes once he begins to provide a little more than just hustle.  From more games, it's clear Kawhi Leanard is going to hustle, play defense, and score a little.  I don't understand how people fall to San Antonio every year.

Iman Shumpert-  Shumpert looked really good against the Celtics, he was one of few people playing defense and he was getting his minutes (he played 22 minutes) additionally he was hustling.  For rookies who probably won't be too great during their rookie season, getting minutes and hustling are two things you really like to see.      This injury will keep him out for some time and give Tony Douglas time to prove himself; If Douglass can lock up that spot it'll be good for the Knicks, but bad for Shumpert.

Chris Singleton- He had 22 minutes and didn't have any notable stats, but it was clear why they picked him, the kid does not get scored on.

Kenneth Faried-  Didn't play in the first game of the season which was a blowout, I don't want to jump to conclusions, but usually that means he won't get much playing time in the season.  He still hasn't played much, but when he does he just hustles, and doesn't really seem to be trying that hard to score.

Marshon Brooks-  8 minutes 6 points, the second the kid got in the game he was trying to score, but he wasn't as good defensively as had been expected (he wasn't expected to be a defensive beast but not a liability either.)  To no ones surprise he's scoring a lot, I'd just like to see him get more than 1.3 assists per game, he;s on course to be the next Nick young, which is all right, but I feel like he could do better.

Jordan Hamilton- Still hasm't gotten into a game.

Norris Cole-  Cole runs the point well, and when he was in he was doing a great.  Additionally he got minutes (24) honestly, he has a chance of getting the starting spot this season.  He's continued good play, and if he keeps this up I wouldn't be surprised if he 's starting before Febuary, after all he's already in at the end of games.  Cole very well could make a lot of teams regret not having picked him.
